Yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, met with his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius. The Secretary of State said he was very pleased with the meeting, at the invitation of the French authority. Minister Muñoz explained that the purpose of the meeting was “to review bilateral relations, especially since the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, will make an official visit to France in June, as she has been invited by President François Hollande.”
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Muñoz invited Foreign Minister Fabius to the “Our Ocean” conference, to be held in Valparaíso on October 5th and 6th. Foreign Minister Fabius revealed that Prince Albert of Monaco attend the international conference, which was later confirmed by Minister Muñoz.
The head of the Chilean diplomacy said that during the meeting several topics were discussed: peacekeeping operations, including the situation in Haiti; the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP21) which will take place in December in Paris; and various issues on the international scene, considering that France is part of the UN Security Council where Chile is non-permanent member until next year.
The two ministers also discussed the current situation in Latin America and the recent acts of terrorism that occurred in France and, yesterday, in Tunisia.
